Jason Atherton
Chef and Restaurateur

Jason Atherton started out working alongside great chefs including Pierre Koffmann, Marco Pierre White, Nico Ladenis and Ferran Adria at el Bulli, before joining the Gordon Ramsay Holdings in 2001 and launching ‘Maze’, first in London and then another five globally. His flagship restaurant ‘Pollen Street Social’ opened in April 2011 in Mayfair and was awarded a Michelin star within just six months of opening, alongside 4 AA Rosettes and no.3 in The Good Food Guide’s best UK restaurants. Since then, Jason’s The Social Company has grown into a global restaurant group, including Michelin-starred Social Eating House, Little Social, Berners Tavern – named ‘the defining restaurant of the decade’, Michelin-starred City Social and Social Wine & Tapas in Marylebone. Alongside his London restaurants, Jason has opened critically acclaimed restaurants in Hong Kong, Shanghai, New York and Dubai. Projects in 2016 include the recently launched Kensington Street Social within The Old Clare Hotel in Sydney; Sosharu, a Japanese restaurant in Clerkenwell opening in March; and an Italian restaurant in Victoria’s new Nova complex.

Tim Smith
General Manager

Tim graduated with a Bachelor's degree in International Hospitality Management from the University of Brighton – UK.  He comes to this position with extensive years of experience in the Food and Beverage industry in UK and Dubai. He started his career in London with Randolph Butlers as a Barman. In 2007 he held different positions at Sketch restaurant, in the Service and Kitchen sections. After being promoted to assistant manager He then had the opportunity to move to Hotels where he worked at the prestigious Dorchester Hotel in 2009, managing the Grill restaurant under Chef Brian Hughson. Working at the Dorchester collection for 2 years Tim decided to gain more experience within the 5 star luxury hotels and joined the Connaught hotel under the Maybourne hotel group. He gained many new skills in fine dining working closely with Helene Darroze. 2014 brought a change to move to Dubai and took on the Assistant General Manager role in Frioul Bistro de luxe and Pacha Nightclub, being part of their opening team in 2014 – 2015. After managing openings, Tim’s most recent opening as General Manager was the successful restaurant and bar Cocktail Kitchen in Jumeirah lake towers, before making the move to the Social company as General Manager of Marina Social. 

Craig Best
Head Chef

Craig Best earned the title Head Chef after thirteen years of culinary experience amongst some of the industry’s leading venues and chefs. He joined Marina Social in November 2016.

Beginning his culinary experience at notorious Chef Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants, Craig had a fantastic step into the world of culinary excellence. The four-year journey included experience at both The Devonshire and The Warrington where Craig worked his way up the ladder, from demi-chef to sous chef.

Continuing his impressive career debut, Craig joined La Trompette, a 1 Michelin Star restaurant in London as Chef De Partie. His responsibilities included running the kitchen, including the pastry, ordering stock and assisting the menu changes. For two year he excelled in his role, which eventually landed him a Head Chef position at Michael Nadra Chiswick. One year later, Craig ventured backwards as Sous Chef at heavily acclaimed Tredwell’s & The Gilbert Scott, both Maruc Wareing restaurants. Surpassing his talents after one quick year, Craig made the big move to Dubai, where he took on the role, yet again as Head Chef, at Social Wine & Tapas, followed by his current role in the same position at Jason Atherton’s Marina Social.
